“Why do you do what you do? Do you have a passion for it? If you have a passion for something and are committed to seeing your vision come true, you’ll be willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. It’s called the Why.”
-Carson Tinker in his book A Season to Remember: Faith in the Midst of the Storm

At the University, people have their whys as to what they do. People have their reasons as to why they are Greek, why they strive to be the best students, and why they do or do not go to church. As for me, I have my whys as to being part of Tide 4 Christ.

From the first day I started going to Central I noticed that Tide 4 Christ was a special group of young adults. I noticed a few things that made me want to be apart of something that was bigger than myself. The first thing I noticed was that they wanted to help others that were not apart of the group. They knew that it would take sacrifices to do that but they did not mind. From the tutoring group who went to Crestmont to the Disaster Relief group that helped in Tupelo and Athens, they wanted to shine their light on others and show the love and power of Jesus. The second thing I noticed was that they have an awesome support group who backed them in anyway possible. Central loves their students. The wonderful Adopt-a-Student program allowed me to see just how important Tide 4 Christ is to the Central congregation. Knowing that many people care for and love the souls of college students showed me that people really wanted only the best for us and were willing to do whatever it took to keep us close and not let us lose our way. Finally, I noticed that Tide 4 Christ was a special group who wanted to help each other who were within the group. I realized that they cared for each other deeper then most people. Yes, they all had different opinions but they still cared for each other on a spiritual level and wanted to help each other to develop their faith so that it would grow stronger. Of course they were friends but it was also evident that they were brothers and sisters in Christ and no one was going to get in their way of that. They were there for each other in the good times and bad times and they knew that they could count on each other no matter what happened. Seeing them act that way reminded me of Proverbs 18:24 where it says “there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” And with the Tide 4 Christ group, I think that verse applies a lot to the way they act and care for each other.

I saw this and knew immediately that Tide 4 Christ was something I wanted to be apart of. These were some of my “Whys” as to why I thought that Tide 4 Christ was the place for me. I have met many wonderful people who’ve helped me mentally and spiritually this past year. I am proud to call myself part of Tide 4 Christ and I’m eager to see what God has in store for this wonderful group of ours.
