There are so many things that I could tell you to do, or warn you about when you first come to college. I know that most of you who are about to leave for your first semester of college are probably hearing a lot of dos and don’ts for when you get to college. I want to add three things to that list. These three things are very fundamental and easy to do, and they should apply to ALL colleges whether private or public.
  1.         Contrary to popular belief, not everyone parties when they get to college. I know that partying seems to be something that everyonedoes, but it isn’t. The main thing I am trying to say is if you have a roommate or a friend that gets involved in those kinds of activities, do not feel obligated to join them. Do what you can to pull them out but don’t feel like you have to do those same things. Be a good example.
  2.     Time Management! The first time I saw my class schedule I said: “Oh, I will have nothing but time on my hands!” Looking back now I realize that was not the case. Coming from someone who didn’t start out on the right foot with grades and school, I suggest you do whatever you have to do to stay ahead in your classes.
  3.     The most important piece of advice I can give you is find a church home. Along with this you should always keep God first. Matthew 6:33 says:

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all things will be added to you.”
I know that you will probably hear this from parents and others a hundred times before you get to college, but I cannot stress to you how important it is.

These three things are very basic and simple, but if you do them they will make your life a whole lot easier. You are going to have a lot of things to do when you get to college. I constantly stay busy with my friends in Tide 4 Christ, going to retreats or just hanging out in the church building. In the two years I have been in Tuscaloosa I have memories that will last a lifetime with all of my friends. Find that group of friends that you can do the same with. Find a group of people that will help you grow in Christ.
