We all have our comfort zones, our place we fit in, our way of life we’d rather live. One of the hardest parts of college, and life in general, is finding that niche. Now niche is an interesting word as it literally means “a shallow recess, especially one in a wall to display a statue or other ornament”. So it is literally a place where something you want to show off will fit in. How do we find that hole in the wall? How do we even know if we have found it? It’s a question we all have and a question that is hard to find the answer to if you don’t know where to look.

People finding their niche is how a community or a church can run like a well-oiled machine. When there are people to cover all responsibilities then it can work as efficiently as possible. One of my favorite aspects of Tide 4 Christ is it allows you to find where you fit in, not so that you can shine, but so that God can shine through you. Whether it is teaching a class, leading singing, teaching the young children or even talking to people that are new to the group. Without these types of people, the church cannot do what it was intended to do.

Romans 12:6-8 “6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully”

This verse shows that each of us has a special gift given to us by God so that we might, in some way, show His power through our talents. Some people have a harder time finding their talents than others, some people’s talents blossom as they get older. Not all of us can be a music prodigy or a super genius from the time we are five years old. Some people, as the last verse of that passage says, can excel in more discrete ways. It could be by being encouraging to those who have been let down or even by just showing mercy on those who have hurt you. There is no unimportant talent.

Everyone has his or her niche. Some find it early, some do not realize what theirs is until later in life, but we all have ours. I encourage every person that reads this post to find what your talents are. If you have already figured it out, use them. Use them in a way that can bring more people to God. Use them in a way that shows every single person you come in contact with who it is you serve and who it is you will proclaim forever.
