Do you know what you want out of life?
My dad once told me, “At all times, we must keep open the possibility that more is possible,” and that’s something that I try to abide by in my life.
As humans, we limit ourselves. We focus on the things that we can’t do and get scared of what’s out there in the world. This fear is strictly a human characteristic, and it isn’t one we came from the factory with: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7). God didn’t design us to be afraid, but to embrace the life He’s given us.
Unfortunately, we don’t stop by putting limits on ourselves. We let those limits extend into our relationship with God. We tell ourselves that God can’t do what we ask of Him. But who are we to put limits on God Almighty, who created an entire universe in just seven days? Despite what we think is possible for Him, there’s only one thing that God can’t do, and that’s lie. Keeping in mind that God cannot lie to us, read Ephesians 3:20.
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.”
God is going to do more in our lives than we can ask or even imagine. Immeasurably more! Our best plans for ourselves don’t touch what He has in store. The same thought is repeated in 1 Corinthians 2:9:
“However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him.”
God is limitless, and we can be, too, if we allow Him to take us from where we are to where He wants us to be. He wants us to have more and to be more and to do more in this life, so that we can truly be the light of the world. Consider this:
“It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” -Marianne Williamson
Who are we to be afraid of this world? Jesus overcame the world, and we will too. The rest of the world needs to see the boldness and confidence that comes from having God on our side. If we don’t remember that more is possible with God in our lives, we’re shrinking. We’re disappearing. We aren’t serving God’s purpose for His people in a dark world.
More is always possible. As a matter of fact, ANYTHING is possible with God! (Matthew 19:26). God wants you to make the most out of this life; that’s why He gave it to us. Just think about this: If God wanted us to simply exist, would He have given us the ability to see colors? To taste food? To love, and to be loved? If our purpose was to just take up space, our lives could be much more simple than they are.
If we don’t live our lives to the fullest, we are missing out on one of God’s greatest gifts to us. As a matter of fact, we do Him a disservice by not fully embracing the gift of life that He gave us. We need to stop looking at what we can’t do because we are Christians and look at how much we can do with God.
So, let me ask you again. Do you know what you want out of life? It’s okay if you don’t, because what God has in mind for you is more than what you think is possible right now, anyways. The only limits that exist are the ones that you put on yourself and God.
Don’t be afraid of this life. Don’t shrink and make your light smaller. Don’t let the limits you put on yourself hold you back from living the life that God has planned for you, and above all, don’t ever limit the Lord your God.
If you go with God, more is always possible. Especially after this life.
