One of the most difficult things for we as humans to admit is that we do not have all of the answers. We like to prove to those around us that we can properly handle every situation and respond appropriately. Sometimes, I convince myself that I do not need to listen to my parents’ advice because I feel like I am old enough to know what I should or should not do. If I’m honest with myself, I know that this is not always the case. My parents have bits of wisdom that I do not yet have. They know what is truly best for me.
If I know that I should listen to my parents, it would be stupid to not listen to God. God is always there for us, and wants each and every one of us to follow His commands. It can be easy to question God’s commands sometimes because they do not always lead to immediate satisfaction; however, like our earthly parents but to a much greater extent, God knows what is best for us.
Proverbs 3:5-6 states, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” These two verses are among my favorites in the entire Bible. God is dependable and will be there for us when we need him every single time. It is our job to recognize that we do not have all of the answers, and we need Him.
One way that God helps us is by the people He puts around us. When I decided to attend the University of Alabama, many of my friends from my Christian high school joked that it would only be a matter of time before I became a partier and drinker. I was confident that I would stay away from this kind of thing by surrounding myself with people that want to please God. I did not realize that it would be as easy as it was to find those of similar beliefs. I believe that God put Tide 4 Christ in my life. I am so thankful for this group. When I think of college, this group is one of the first things that comes to my mind. It is amazing what can happen when a group of friends with a common goal spend time together.
Proverbs 27:17 asserts that as “iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” There is no doubt in my mind that Tide 4 Christ has made a positive impact on my life. Just simply spending time around this group has made me want to grow closer to God.

We all have choices to make in this life. We need to understand that we will not always have the answers to life’s questions on our own. It is imperative that we constantly look to God for guidance, and we must surround ourselves with Christian friends and role models that will help us on our spiritual journey.
