Michael is from Athens, AL and is majoring in civil engineering. He is one of the vice presidents for 2019-2020.

To introduce myself, my name is Michael Renfroe, and I am on of the vice presidents of Tide for Christ this school year. I went to a church in Athens, Alabama with a relatively small youth group. Because my youth group in high school was a smaller one, I knew that I wanted to go to a school that had a strong college group, so I chose Alabama/ Tide 4 Christ.

Like most every student in T4C, I came to college with extremely high academic expectations. In high school, I was known as the guy that’s good at math, so making good grades and being known as one of the “smart guys” in the T4C was naturally one of my priorities. I wanted to be a person that people went to for help when they were having trouble in math or engineering classes. But then I began to realize that trying to be smarter than everyone is futile for two reasons.

1. There is always someone smarter

2. The wisdom of the world is foolishness before God

I Corinthians 3:20 says, “the thoughts of the wise are worthless.” I came across this verse when school was nearly drowning me in worry and stress. It helped and still helps me remember that, while still studying hard in school is important, its even more important to put the wisdom of God first. So, I want to encourage you to ensure God is your number one. College is hard, and a close family like Tide 4 Christ can help you remember that school is just a temporary stepping stone and your relationship with God will last forever. It certainly helped me remember.

Tide 4 Christ has been really important to me in my first two years at Alabama. Its been where I met my friends and most importantly it has challenged me to draw nearer to God. If it wasn’t for this group, college would’ve been a lot tougher to get through.

I’m super excited for this year. You can expect us to go on a couple of retreats, where we will play games, study the bible, and chill with new friends. You can also expect to play on some intramural teams ranging from basketball, flag football, soccer, and slow pitch softball. You can expect to be invited out to eat to all the hotspots in Tuscaloosa. You can expect to be fed every Wednesday night before church by the members of the congregation. Lastly, you can expect to tailgate before our home football games. We’ve got a lot of things planned, and I think this will be our best year yet.
