“You should pray about it” is probably advice that you’ve heard throughout your life, no matter the situation. There’s a reason for that; it’s the best thing you can do! Any concern, problem, or worry you have, take it to your heavenly Father. This is a lesson that it took me a long time to learn, but it is absolutely the most valuable.

Two years ago, I was trying to prepare for my freshman year of college. I knew my entire life would change. I’d move from Maryland to Alabama. I wouldn’t be living with my family. I wouldn’t be going to the church I grew up attending. Most importantly to me, I wouldn’t know anyone. Every night, I prayed about this transition and I began to feel at peace, and even excited about it! I was right to be excited about it. When I got to campus, I joined Tide 4 Christ. I was able to find a great group of friends, some amazing roommates, and an encouraging church family! I knew that God had answered my prayers and had taken care of me.

Over the past two years, the people in Tide 4 Christ have been there to support me and my walk with God. He gave me a group of people that I could have fun with, connect with, and build lasting friendships with. I met the people I went to football games with (Roll Tide!), watched The Office and do homework with (in that order), went out to eat with (try Mugshots, trust me), and above all, relied on to be there when I need them. Tide 4 Christ and the people I’ve met there have really become my family away from home. God knew that I would need encouragement during this transition period in my life, and he definitely provided it. Fortunately, the encouragement of T4C didn’t stop with me. The past two summers, T4C has also been able to send members to my home congregation in Maryland to serve as interns. This program has been such a blessing to the small Calvert County Church of Christ family and I’m sure many other churches around the country.

Prayer is the way for you to connect with God and tell him what’s going on in your life, how you’re feeling, and thank Him for everything He’s done for you. Have you been going through a hard time? Pray about it! Stressed about tests and homework? Don’t understand the material in your classes? Pray about it! Feeling down on yourself? Gone through a breakup? Pray about it! Had the best day ever and feel like you’re on top of the world? Thank Him! Praying and being connected to God is the ONLY way to have true peace in your heart. I have been able to find real happiness and contentness through prayer. I hope to encourage the people around me to get involved in the T4C family and find what I’ve found as well!

I’m Priscilla Means and I’m going to my junior year, studying chemical engineering. This year, I will be one of the women’s ministry leaders. I’m so excited for this opportunity to connect with everyone in the group! I know the ladies in T4C have some fun plans for this upcoming year, including a girls devo and movie nights! Please feel free to reach out me or any of the officers if you want to become a part of our Tide 4 Christ family (I hope you will)! I can’t wait until the fall to meet all of you!
