I started off attending Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in a small town called Perkinston, MS. With my time there I was a voice major briefly then switched to acting. Unlike most of my colleagues, I rushed my college experience and received my Associates Degree within a year from MGCCC. Before graduation for MGCCC, I suffered with the “What’s Next?” dilemma. I was extremely hesitant on making any decision because this was my future literally being molded with whatever I chose to do next. Then I stumbled upon the verse Proverbs 16:9 which says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” That verse alone allowed me to realize, I just had to follow my heart and God will have my back through it. That led me to the University of Alabama. So I picked up and moved to Tuscaloosa, AL.
My previous Minister, Joel Wheeler, told me one of his brothers was a member at Central Church of Christ and on the first Sunday of our move, my friend and I made sure to find this specific church. Because a familiar name was as close as we would get to comfort because no faces were familiar for us anywhere in this town. Then, we were exposed to Tide 4 Christ (T4C) and it was honestly life changing. My friend, Ashley, and I both grew up attending church. With that being said, it’s always been that age gap in both of our churches. There was always a substantial amount of young children and more seasoned adults, but never young adults around our age. Maybe one or two others, but never more. With T4C, we were allowed to fellowship with like-minded, Christian, college students, just like ourselves.
We grew closer in the group and even consider some of the people we’ve met as family now. There is such a beautiful unity in being part of a group such a T4C and a church such as Central. There are so many ways to stay connected with other members, events to attend to create an even stronger bond, and the amount of love that is always in the atmosphere is surreal.
Aneisha Brackens is a junior from Foley, Alabama and majoring in Acting/Performing Arts. We are thankful for her and all the wonderful ladies in our ministry.
